About the Journal
ABOUT THE JOURNAL
FOCUS AND SCOPE
Apuntes. Revista de Ciencias Sociales is a biannual social science journal edited and published by the Research Center of the Universidad del Pacífico (Peru) since 1973. Its goal is to publish and disseminate studies in the social sciences and economics with a special emphasis on social policies in Latin America and Peru. Each issue of Apuntes has two sections. The first consists of articles based on original research and the second contains notes and reviews of recently published books.
PEER EVALUATION PROCESS
The editor informs authors that their articles have been received within seven business days. The Editorial Committee then evaluates whether the articles are in keeping with the goals of the journal. This process takes no more than 15 days. The articles that pass this preliminary evaluation are sent to at least two anonymous reviewers who are familiar with their subject matter. During the evaluation and selection process, the Editorial Committee of Apuntes stays in contact with each author, providing observations and corrections for inclusion in their texts. Then, based on the results of this process, the Editorial Committee decides which articles will be published and informs the authors accordingly. If an article is accepted, it will be published no later than one year after it was first received.
OPEN ACCESS POLICY
Apuntes publishes all its articles and book reviews under a public copyright license from Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 3.0) with the objective of fostering academic interchange worldwide. Therefore, all articles and reviews can be distributed, edited, amended, etc., as the author or readers see fit. The only condition is that the name of the author or authors and of Apuntes. Revista de Ciencias Sociales be cited as the publisher of the text.
Authors have the right to upload previous versions of the text in any archive or public space online. They can archive articles with the comments made by peer reviewers prior to the publication of the final version in Apuntes as a pdf online, but must include a bibliographical reference to the issue of Apuntes in which the article appeared.
STATEMENT ON PUBLICATION ETHICS AND MALPRACTICE
Our ethical statement is based on COPE’s Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors, and specifies the standards of expected ethical behaviour for all parties involved in the act of publishing (the author, the journal editor, the peer reviewer and the Publisher).
Duties of the editor-in-chief
Fair play: under every circumstance, the editor evaluates the manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political beliefs of the authors.
Confidentiality: The editor and any editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.
Disclosure and conflicts of interest: Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor's own research without the express written consent of the author.
Duties of Reviewers
Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Peer reviewing assists the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board in making editorial decisions and through editorial communications with the author may also assist the author in improving the paper.
Promptness: Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse herself from the review process.
Confidentiality: Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as a confidential document. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as expressly authorized by the editor.
Standards of Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.
Acknowledgement of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published material that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, commentary, or argument has been previously published should be accompanied by the relevant citation. A reviewer should also call to the editor's attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest: Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not evaluate manuscripts with respect to which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships, or connections with any of the authors or institutions connected to the papers.
Duties of Authors
Originality and Plagiarism: The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works and, if the authors have used the work and/or words of others, that this has been appropriately cited or quoted.
Multiple, Redundant or Concurrent Publication: An author should not in general publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behaviour and is unacceptable.
Acknowledgement of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.
Authorship of the Paper: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception and written production of the research submitted.
Fundamental errors in published Works: When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published or submitted work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the journal editor and cooperate with the editor to amend the error.

HISTORY OF APUNTES
Apuntes. Revista de Ciencias Sociales was published for the first time in 1973 by the members of the Research Center of the Universidad del Pacífico with the following goals: “APUNTES is a journal for scientific research and dissemination in the social sciences, open to everyone interested in the study of the Peruvian and Latin American realities. In our milieu, it is common and traditional among those working in the social sciences to adopt a stance which is co-existential and deaf to different ideologies. Professors and followers representing the broadest range of currents of thought have jointly participated in teaching, debates, and the written page without the underlying tenets of their respective positions being subjected to question, or vice-versa. APUNTES seeks to give special attention to the need to maintain a critical attitude regarding the theoretical bases of distinct ideologies. At the same time, it seeks to promote encounters between different sectors and different interpretations of the Peruvian national reality, breaking through the dialogue of the deaf that currently exists. For this reason, its pages are open to those who wish to put forth their scientific contributions, as well as those who question these studies and approaches. Our special interest is in our society, in questioning the interpretations of its reality, and in the solution of its contradictions.”
