Abstract

Como en otros países de América Latina, en la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII el Perú puso en marcha dispositivos legales destinados a favorecer la afluencia de inmigrantes europeos. Se intentaba resolver de este modo el viejo problema de la carencia de mano de obra en la costa, así como poblar y colonizar la zona oriental del país. Al mismo tiempo -- al menos en las intenciones de una inteligencia frustrada y eurodependiente-- se pretendía vigorizar física y culturalmente una raza humillada por siglos de servilismo colonial.
