Ethical policy

Ethical Policy

The ethical statement of Apuntes. Revista de Ciencias Sociales is based on the “Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors” proposed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), which outline the ethical behavior expected of all parties involved in the publishing process: authors, journal editors, peer reviewers, and the publisher.

Duties of the Editor-in-Chief

  • Fairness: The editor evaluates manuscripts based on their intellectual content without regard to the authors’ race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political views.
  • Confidentiality: Neither the editor nor the editorial staff may disclose information about a submitted manuscript to unauthorized persons.
  • Disclosure and conflicts of interest: Unpublished materials must not be used in the editor's own research without the author’s express written consent.

Duties of Reviewers

  • Contribution to editorial decisions: Peer review supports the editor and may help the author improve their work.
  • Promptness: If a reviewer cannot evaluate a manuscript, they must notify the editor and withdraw from the process.
  • Confidentiality: All received manuscripts must be treated as confidential documents and not discussed without authorization.
  • Objectivity standards: Reviews must be objective, free of personal criticism, and clearly supported by arguments.
  • Acknowledgment of sources: Reviewers should identify relevant uncited work and inform the editor of any substantial similarity to other publications.
  • Disclosure and conflicts of interest: Information from peer review must not be used for personal benefit. Reviewers must decline to review manuscripts where conflicts of interest exist.

Duties of Authors

  • Originality and plagiarism: Authors must submit original work and properly cite all sources used.
  • Multiple publication: The same research should not be submitted to more than one journal simultaneously.
  • Acknowledgment of sources: All publications influencing the submitted work must be cited.
  • Authorship: Authorship is limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the research.
  • Fundamental errors: If an author discovers a significant error in their work, they must inform the editor for correction.
