Author Guidelines

Article Submission Process

The article manuscript must be submitted through the OJS platform; this is the only submission method accepted by Apuntes. Revista de Ciencias Sociales. During the evaluation and selection process, the Director of Apuntes. Revista de Ciencias Sociales will communicate with authors through the OJS platform. Only in exceptional cases will email be used to contact the corresponding registered author. The corresponding author can check the status of the editorial process by logging into the OJS platform with their username and password.

Once the Word file is received through the OJS platform, the Director will review it to assess its relevance to the journal’s thematic focus. This process will take a maximum of 14 days. The article must comply with the criteria listed in the submission checklist provided at the top of this page and on the OJS platform. Authors must meet all the following requirements: (1) formatting, (2) anonymized authorship, (3) topic relevance, (4) originality, (5) maximum length, (6) abstract, (7) keywords, (8) title, (9) footnotes, tables, figures, and references, (10) funding disclosure, (11) conflict of interest statement, (12) acceptance of the ethical policy, and (13) acceptance of authorship and copyright terms. Articles that fail to meet any of these requirements will be desk rejected.

Articles that pass this initial screening will be assigned by the Director to a member of the Editorial Committee, who will, within 7 days, distribute the manuscript to two subject matter experts for peer review. Reviewers will have 14 days to accept or decline the assignment. Once accepted, they will have 28 days to submit an editorial decision indicating whether the article is: (1) publishable with revisions, (2) revise and resubmit for a new review, or (3) not publishable. Once evaluations from both reviewers are received, the authors will be notified and must proceed according to the editorial decision.

Following this, based on the outcomes of the peer review process, the Editorial Committee will make the final decision on publication and inform the authors. If the article is accepted, the maximum time frame for publication is 18 months from the date of submission.

Once the article is accepted for publication, the Editorial Coordinator will contact the authors, who must review and approve the formatted version of the article and sign a sworn declaration of authorship and copyright transfer before its publication in Apuntes. Revista de Ciencias Sociales.

Reviewers are selected based on their academic background, expertise, and scholarly production in the subject area. The anonymity of both authors and reviewers will be maintained throughout the evaluation process to avoid conflicts of interest or bias.

Policy on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Apuntes. Revista de Ciencias Sociales acknowledges the growing development and use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, including new applications for research in social sciences and economics.

If AI tools are used to support information gathering, methodology development, literature classification, language editing, or other tasks, authors must submit a separate document describing the use of AI. This document must include: the full name of the tool, the tool’s URL, the purpose of using it, and details on how it was used.

Authors should be aware of the following potential risks associated with AI use:

  • Inaccuracy and bias: Generative AI tools are statistical in nature (not factual), and may introduce inaccuracies, falsehoods, or biases that are difficult to detect or correct.

  • Lack of attribution: Generative AI often does not follow academic standards for accurate and proper citation or attribution of sources.

  • Confidentiality and intellectual property risks: These tools often operate on third-party platforms that may not offer adequate standards for confidentiality, data security, or copyright protection.

  • Unintended use: Providers of generative AI may reuse user inputs or outputs (e.g., for model training), which could infringe on the rights of authors, editors, or third parties.

Please remember that AI is not an author and cannot replace the essential tasks of authorship, such as developing original and accurate content, verifying information relevance, and editing text, tables, or figures.
